Pencil & Charcoal Drawing 101

(Ages 13-17 / Adults 18+ )
In this introductory drawing class, we work in pencil and charcoal to master skills for rendering realistic effects of light, shadow and textures. The focus is on observation, shading, mark-making techniques and mastery of traditional drawing tools. Subject matter is mostly shapes and simple still life objects such as eggs, stones, water droplets, metal objects, etc.

In this drawing class, we work in pencil and charcoal to continue development of skills for rendering realistic effects of light and shadow while exploring fundamentals of perspective with subject matter being some still-life and some occasional life forms (human or animal).

In this drawing class, we practice the art of gesture drawing which introduces the concept of poses and dynamic figure drawing (this is an important foundation for those who enjoy drawing people or characters).
Drawing the Head & Face

In this drawing class, we explore methods to draw the human face. With a brief introduction of the Loomis and Reilly methods, we move beyond these to implement skills of observation, light, shadow, mark-making, textures, and employ tools to help facilitate proper placement of features. Models of human skulls are referenced. Faces and studies of facial features like eyes, mouths, noses are practiced.
Fantasy Sketch Club on Outschool

Bring your art to the club! We share our O.C's (Original Characters) & fantasy based art. This club includes inspiration & conceptual sketch prompts. Not an overly instructional class but a club offering ideas, art tips & peer camaraderie.

I offer one-on-one instruction at a rate of $60/hr. meeting in real time with my students over Zoom or Google Meet. (Study-Buddy Rate is available too. Share the session with one friend of yours and split the costs, but maximum is TWO learners in a session.)
